How to listen to live radio with CarPlay and Android Auto

A mobile radio app is most useful in the car when the controls stay simple. CarPlay and Android Auto are designed to surface essential audio actions on a compatible vehicle display so you can spend less time handling your phone and more time focused on driving.

What CarPlay and Android Auto actually do

CarPlay and Android Auto do not create a separate radio signal. Your phone still runs the app and normally uses its internet connection to reach the station stream. The vehicle display provides a safer, simplified interface for supported actions such as choosing audio, pausing or resuming playback, and moving between available items.

Before you drive

Set up your phone and vehicle while parked. Make sure TuneAll is installed and updated, confirm the phone has mobile data or another usable connection, and connect CarPlay or Android Auto according to your vehicle's instructions. If your system supports wireless connection, pairing may happen automatically after the first setup; otherwise a compatible cable may be required.

Choose stations before you need them

Favourites are especially useful in the car. Save a few stations you regularly enjoy so you do not need to search through a large directory while driving. Recently played can also help you return to something you heard earlier. Preparing a short list before the trip makes the in-car experience faster and less distracting.

Mobile data and long listening sessions

Internet radio continuously transfers audio, so it uses mobile data when you are away from Wi-Fi. The exact amount depends on the stream bitrate and how long you listen. If your data plan is limited, keep that in mind during long drives or international travel.

Why a stream may stop on the road

Mobile coverage changes as you travel. Tunnels, rural areas, network congestion or a handoff between cellular towers can interrupt an internet stream. The app may reconnect when the data connection improves. A problem with one station can also come from the broadcaster's streaming server rather than from CarPlay or Android Auto itself.

Keep safety first

Do not search through long station lists or change settings while the vehicle is moving. Use the simplified in-car controls, voice features supported by your phone and vehicle, or make changes when safely parked. Local laws and vehicle instructions should always take priority.

A simple setup routine

  1. Install and update TuneAll before the trip.
  2. Save several favourite stations.
  3. Connect your phone to CarPlay or Android Auto while parked.
  4. Start a station and confirm audio plays through the vehicle.
  5. Use the in-car controls for simple playback actions while driving.
